Huellas ("the app") is operated by Black Hills Labs ("we"). This policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Information we collect
- Account: Email and password (encrypted) for authentication.
- Content: Voice recordings, text, and images you voluntarily upload to preserve life stories.
- Microphone: Only when you start a recording. We never record in the background.
- Storage/Photos: Only to upload files you explicitly select.
How we use your information
- Transcribe audio to text using AI services (with zero data retention).
- Generate narratives and timelines from your stories.
- Store your content securely on our private servers.
Storage and security
- All data is stored on self-managed private servers in the United States (Hetzner, Ashburn, Virginia).
- We do not use third-party cloud services for storage.
- Passwords are encrypted with bcrypt.
- Communication is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
External services
- Groq (transcription): Audio is sent for transcription with zero data retention (ZDR) enabled. They do not train models on your data.
- OpenRouter (AI): Excerpts of the transcribed text and the photos you upload (never the original audio) are sent for analysis and narrative generation. Every request requires providers with zero data retention (ZDR).
- Hugging Face (semantic search): Text excerpts are sent to build the indexes that relate stories to each other (embeddings).
What we do NOT do
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
- We do not show advertising.
- We do not track your location.
- We do not access your microphone or photos without your explicit action.
Your rights
You can request deletion of your account and all your data at any time by emailing [email protected].
